I moved several Hedychium out of pots and planted them outdoors to test their winter survival. My notes listed Hedychium coccineum white and Hedychium coccineum yellow as hardy to 0 degrees F, Hedychium Pink V to 5 degrees F, and Hedychium Sherry Baby to 15 degrees F. These temperatures were claims recorded in my notes at the time, not results of my own trial yet.
Sherry Baby had performed poorly in a pot and its tuber mass had become smaller over time. The outdoor planting was intended to see how these gingers would perform in the ground through winter.
