Sheri Ann Richerson from ExperimentalHomesteader.com talks about the Miren Reusable Mini Silicone Baking Cups she received for review. Plus she makes homemade maple candy with her own homemade maple syrup to demonstrate how easy it is to use, get the baked items out of and clean up afterwards!
The first thing I noticed when I unboxed and washed these was how thick the silicone was. I really liked this because it meant they were sturdy and would hold their shape well. I was right. I put them to the test making maple candy with homemade maple syrup. I wanted to see if they could withstand the heat, if they truly were non-stick and how well the design turned out.
Once they were dry, I used a silicone brush to brush the inside of the molds with butter. This helps the molds release the foods easier and is better than oil. I then made a batch of maple candy and poured it into the molds. Now I waited a little too long to pour the liquid so it had to be pressed into the molds. I played around with the molds a little bit to try to remelt the liquid to get a better distribution of the maple candy as it was hardening so fast. I put several of the molds in the microwave to re-liquidify the candy. It worked and the molds held up just fine. As for how well the design turned out, it looked nice. There was some "oops" because I waited too long to pour the candy into the molds but there was a clear difference in the way the looked with the ones I microwaved.
I am very happy with these silicone molds! They are going to be so handy for making candies and other tiny desserts! Highly recommended!
